About
Motherland works with neighborhoods and communities to acquire and transform vacant land into urban farms to grow culturally relevant and fresh food to meet the diverse needs of the community. Given the complexity of the situation, we collaborate with local healthcare institutions, educational institutions, and community leaders to address food insecurity holistically and through a system approach. We consider and address multiple factors affecting access and consumption of healthy food. For example, we collaborate with local hospitals and other healthcare institutions to host educational events onsite where community members participate and receive education on different topics, including nutrition, diet related chronic diseases, and physical activities. During the growing seasons, we hold cultural food festivals where neighbors share cultural foods. We also provide education and demonstrations on how to prepare healthy food from scratch and on a budget.
Our Program
At Motherland Gardens, we offer a variety of programs and services to support our community. Our garden is run by volunteers, and we welcome anyone who is interested in getting involved. We offer gardening workshops and classes, as well as opportunities to help with planting, harvesting, and maintaining the garden.In addition to growing fresh produce, we also partner with local organizations to distribute food to those in need. Our community kitchen provides healthy meals to those who might not have access to them otherwise.By working together, we can create a healthier and more sustainable community.
Community Farm Trips

Seasonal Harvest
We grow a variety of fresh produce that changes with the seasons. Our volunteers help with planting, watering, and harvesting. All produce is donated to local food banks and soup kitchens to feed those in need.
